St. Patrick’s Day Trip

We decided to make a fun long weekend with siblings.  Keith’s brother and wife joined us to fly to Dallas for the Graceland Ninjaz St. Patrick’s Night Concert.  His sister lives in Dallas so we will be staying with them enjoying a true party band tomorrow and some Texas BBQ tonight!  I need a Ninjaz tee so hope they are selling them.  With BYU in the NIT we changed our plans and tickets snd trekked down to the Land of Provo for round one of the tourney.  Unfortunately my Cougars got their tails handed to them.  I did enjoy getting a Cougar Tail though and we had dinner with friends at Bajio before the game.  Just wish BYU basketball hadn’t ended on such a sour note the last two games.  #Good times #BYUHoops

Sold Out

Well we made the trek south to see BYU came Gonzaga.  Gonzaga right now is the numbet 1 ranked team in the country you know!  So it was not just the rivalry game, it was an undefeated huge game with potential for an upset on Groundhog Day.  Plus it was packed.  We barely got a parking place and we were early!

So here is how the trip and everything went down.  We left on Wednesday late afternoon.  Had Thursday to get some things done.  A friend came by and taught my mother in law and I some cool dōTERRA stuff.  We made some blends and on a very personal note we are grateful for her love and encouragement. Keith spent the day with his parents.  I went and had lunch with Sara.  We hit Tucanos and had a big lunch.  They made sure we got plenty grilled pineapple.  After lunch we stopped at Mr Mac and ordered some more shirts, ties and another set of pants for my missionary.  Love that Mr. Mac ships for me.  We then went to Deseret Book and got some new garments for Keith and I.  I needed to get back so gave Sara a hug and off I went.  Keith offered to take his parents to dinner and they wanted Chuck-a-Rama. I was so full from Tucanos I didn’t have much, just a salad and some jello.  Keith was crazy hungry, so they all ate up.  We got to the game early and Sara and I met up and went to find peeps.  She is quite the social butterfly.  We were back and forth all over the place.  Was fun to see friends and even got down on the floor at one point before the game.  I had 4 inches of Cougar Tail and some Kettle Corn.  I was feeling a sugar high like crazy.  Keith bought like 4 Cougar Tails and was sharing them with all the kids around us.  I think he was Mr. Popular last night.  Keith’s parents left when the game was over and we stayed for awhile chatting with friends then a few of us were hungry so decided on IHOP.  I needed some real food again so ordered eggs, toast and sausage with sides of bacon and ham.  This round Keith wasn’t hungry so he just had hot chocolate.  He and Todd kept stealing my bacon.  I ended up having to order like 3 sides of bacon.  Very bad boys.  We finally got home at a little after 2 am.  We had one final stop this morning after sleeping in.  I wanted Lehi Rollermills muffin and cookie mixes.  I told Keith I was going to get a bunch and not to complain after all the Girl Scout cookies he bought.  It was just like nope, don’t say a word.  He just quietly signed the receipt and I am happy again.

The game was so fun.  Sara and I tried to get on TV, we danced, we played the air drums, we even held up this ladies cute baby.  Nothing worked that I am aware of.  The Marriott Center was loud, like insanely loud.  The Roc section was all the way to the top.  Most I have ever seen.  BYU got to within 6 with about 2 minutes left.  They just couldn’t close the gap.  The Cougarettes gave us their National Title performance of their Hip Hop routine.  Was awesome as always.  I had so much fun!

Lavell Tribute

Today one of my Heros died.  I grew up watching him coach my BYU Cougars.  Lavell Edwards was a great coach but most importantly he was a great leader.  He once made time to come and speak to us.  He told us we were an integral part of the football teams success.  Our efforts on the field and our interaction with the fans made Game Day a success, win or lose.  One of the things I admired most about Coach was despite the fact he won a lot of football games his focus was on developing good people.  Whether you were a coach, player, or even a cheerleader you never, ever doubted that you made a difference and it was more about life than the win.  Part of life is growing old and eventually we all die.  I will miss him.  I understand that his beautiful wife Patti and his family were with him this morning when he passed away.  My prayers are with them.  Patti is a remarkable woman and I am sure is doing much more in comforting others than needing to be comforted tonight.  My best friends Mandy and Sara and their families have been with us in Park City for New Years.  It was the girls turn to head down to BYU for a basketball game, so the three of us and the oldest girls came down tonight.  It was so awesome seeing Lavell Edwards Stadium lit up in tribute to Coach.  (See pic below)  It was the house that he built.  We decided we wanted to do our own tribute for Coach tonight.  So we had us three and found a few more.  After the game we connected up and walked down to the stadium.  We had our own impromptu cheer as we sang the fight song.  Rise and Shout!  💙

Lavell Edwards Story

BYU Fight Song

The Cougar Song
Brigham Young University

By Clyde D. Sandgren, 1932

Rise all loyal Cougars and hurl your challenge to the foe.
You will fight, day or night, rain or snow.

Loyal, strong, and true

Wear the white and blue.

While we sing, get set to spring.

Come on Cougars it’s up to you. Oh!

Rise and shout, the Cougars are out

along the trail to fame and glory.

Rise and shout, our cheers will ring out

As you unfold your victr’y story.

On you go to vanquish the foe for Alma Mater’s sons and daughters.
As we join in song, in praise of you, our faith is strong.

We’ll raise our colors high in the blue

And cheer our Cougars of BYU.

Ra, Ra, Ra Ra Ra Go Cougars

Game Night

BYU vs Mississippi State.  What a win in double overtime.  It’s 9:35 am and I’m still laying in bed recovering from a Cougar Tail hangover.  I haven’t had one since basketball season and even 4 inches was too much last night.  This year was just impossible to go down for Homecoming week.  With our oldest getting ready to leave for his mission and as much as I have been gone I just didn’t feel I could leave.  Lucky we made game day.  I needed a week at home and it was great.  Next year though I will be there and we will party.  Promise!  What I missed the most.  The cheer practice yesterday morning, the hike to the Y, the pre-game activities, the bookstore sales, alumni dinner.  I think this is the first year I didn’t climb the Y during Homecoming since I arrived at the Y for school.  Ugh I suck!  Dang!!!!  Not sure I can deal with that.

Last night was sooooo awesome.  I love that we won!  It made the ride back to Park City bearable.  I was so completely tired.  I don’t remember even getting out of the car when we got there.  I think Keith took advantage of me last night.  Ladies be careful with those Cougar Tails.  Voice is gone to.  I cheered and screamed so hard.  I’m convinced I made a difference 😇.  BYU is on the rise again.  I think I spent more time running around chatting with friends than watching the game.  It was so so so so good to see everyone.  💙  Once a Cougar always a Cougar!  I am absolutely convinced that the greatest friendships are forged in college.  No matter how much time goes by it never fades.  What’s next for BYU?  Thursday next week vs Boise State which will be a real test.  I’m sorry I won’t be there for you BYU but I’m sending my hubby and 3 kids to cheer.  Win for me!  Here are a few pics for you.  Rise and Shout!

Update…I can’t let this go.  I have rallied the troops we are headed to Provo to hike the Y.
